I am currently waiting in our room for the housekeeping staff to save us from our misery. In typical Mexican-hotel fashion, our room, though quite lovely, has a bed that I am fairly certain even the Flinstone's wouldn't want to sleep on. Imagine taking some sheets out to the sidewalk in front of your house and making a bed right there on the road. THIS is what the beds in Mexico are like. (Or at least this has been our experiance for the past 2 trips here.) It's almost comical just how rock-hard these beds are.......almost.
The trip here was a bit rough. Our flight was supposed to depart from SFO at 10:50pm...which turned into 11:59pm, which turned into 1:10am the next morning. Our bags were over the 50lb limit so in a mad dash to even the weight out, I stuffed ALL (4 bottles) of our brand new sunscreen into my backpack. I sent my backpack on through the security station and....shortly thereafter had to throw away ALL of our brand new sunscreen as this was obviously over the 2oz bottle limit. AHHHHH!!!! Thankfully our flight from SFO to Mexico City was a breeze...smooth sailing the whole way and Rick and I got to enjoy some really good conversation. Rick also served as the occasional pillow to the very large man sitting next to him.
Because our flight out of SFO was delayed, we naturally missed our connecting flight. So we had an extra 3 hour layover in Mexico City. Eventually we boarded the flight from Mexico City to Cancun. As we started our decent into the rice-cooker that is Cancun in August...we hit turbulance. And it was, not fun. AND as we bumped along, we all began to notice white smoke pouring out of the ceiling of the plane! I'm thinking..."CRAP!! We are on fire and we are going down-and I didn't even get to see Bella off to kindergarten!!!" Well, it turns out, the pilots kicked the AC into high gear right before we landed and it was more of a mist than it was smoke. OK....PHEW...but really? AC MIST that could be mistaken for smoke? Not cool guys.
And finally...we touched down. We had arrived! We walked off the plane and the heat and humidity hit us like a punch to the face. This was also the point where my darling bob-haircut turned into more of an Edward Scissor Hands-look. =) Anywho, after another hour in a cramped van, we pulled up to our hotel. Our hotel is beautiful. It is right in the heart of the downtown action...yet still seperate enough so as not to be kept awake by the thumping bassline from a nightclub down the street. I had requested an oceanfront suite assuming that by "oceanfront" we MAY be able to see a tiny sliver of the aqua blue waters. Well...I was wrong...and in a very good way. The room is fantastic (except for the stone slab of a bed) and the view is breathtaking!
Here are just a few pictures of the view we have...from left to right. =)
OH my goodness Buddy! How amazing! I am glad that you are there, the flight is over and you can relax and have fun!!
